This is a powerful image and I am moved to think of shoes marking another place today - there's apparently a "wall of shoes" forming at the site of the Boston bombings. How incredible that runners are leaving their shoes as a marker...
For me, this has a different meaning. So many people lost limbs because their injuries were so severe, their feet or legs could not be saved. They no longer have a place to put their shoes. I wrote about this in an article on Saturday that has gotten a lot of attention.
